It is quite simple in theory how to stop sugar cravings but putting it into practise and being successful can be quite difficult, if all you are being told is how to tackle your psychological cravings and not your physical cravings for sugar. Afterall we all have a natural sweet tooth because our body is designed to run mainly off simple carbohydrates (not the no calorie simple carbohydrates we find in foods full of refined sugar though!).

Refined sugar if taken in excess can be very bad for your health because refined sugar is practically empty calories. You are depriving yourself of nutrients for your sugar fix.

So how to stop sugar cravings?

  • Recognize the problem. Be aware of your cravings and when they take place.
  • Avoid drinking sugary drinks. Instead opt to only drink water or herbal teas like green tea.
  • Get plenty of exercise. Many have found this to be beneficial in stopping their cravings.
  • Increase your will power.
  • Do not keep junk foods and sweet foods in the house. Make it hard for yourself to get them.
  • Do not taste the sweet food you want or have only a little bit. Avoid at all costs. Most people cannot control their sweet craving enough only to indulge a little.
  • Go for a walk.
  • Find something to distract you.

You can overcome your sugar cravings you just need to be able to recognize them and have the willpower and plan to get rid of them for good.

You should never feel guilty for your cravings or for caving. It isn’t simply a matter of you want them for comfort, there is a biological reasons for sugar cravings too.

Stop sugar cravings but knowing the biological reasons:

1. When you are feeling tired and depressed, more often than not it is as a result of low sugar levels. By eating something sugary, this will result in boosting your serotonin levels (feel good hormone) and the craving for sugar will disappear. Simple carbohydrates need little work to be digested so give you an instant boost of energy. As long as you are eating a low fat diet, you will only have huge benefits from eating fruit and no cravings.

Previous Post: Stop Cravings: How To Stop Yourself Giving In To A Food Craving

To stop cravings one certainly needs a lot of will power. They can be so strong that saying no isn’t going to happen, however there are plenty of things you can do to prepare yourself and to make it as difficult as possible to give in.

To stop cravings first you need to prepare. So don’t stock junk food in your house or those items you are most likely to binge on and devour. This is really important because you are shooting yourself in the foot by surrounding yourself with the food cravings.

So don’t buy them!

The harder and long it takes you to get the craved item, the more likely the craving will have resolved itself. So if you can’t get it straight away because it isn’t in the house, that is a good thing and very helpful to you.

If a craving comes on, the first thing you should do is eat fruit. I am not talking about 1 piece of fruit as that is likely to make your craving worse but I am talking about quite a few pieces. The thing that has helped me the most is to blend 4-5 bananas together or more, with a little water and then drink it all down. Doing this will really take the edge off the craving and very quickly because it will satisfy you nutritionally and we all know a lot of cravings can occur when we are deprived nutritionally. Soo this is your best bet. You can also try blending the bananas with some spinach as this will add a great deal of minerals to aid in diminishing your craving.

If you don’t feel like eating fruit, then you know you aren’t really hungry and this is a true sign of craving, but I still recommend doing so for your own benefit.

If you find yourself in the car on your way to the store to get the craved item then take fruit with you to eat in the car. You can even talk yourself into eating the fruit by saying things like “If I eat this fruit, then I will allow myself the craved food”.

Hopefully once you reach the store your cravings would have completely gone or diminished to the point that you can make a rational decision not to give into them. This would have happened because you provided your body with enough nutrition to conquer it and also because enough time had passed for your body to get over it.

So when trying to stop cravings, make sure you have fruit to eat and none of your craved foods in the house. Time and good nutrition are your top resources for fighting cravings head on.

Hi all,

This website “Stop Cravings” has been put together to give as much advice as possible to those seeking to overcome overeating, intense cravings, emotional eating and everything and anything involved with binge eating.

As someone who continually fights against emotional eating & cravings (with great success now I know how to) I feel it is important to help others overcome these dreaded issues.  They stand not only in the way of weight loss & happiness but also in the way of sanity!  It absolutely drives you nuts to have food be an issue for you on a day to day basis.  It is tiresome to have food consume your life so much and not know what to do.  I know, I was once there and now have better control.  So hope to help others in their fight against cravings and hopefully while doing so, help others to lose weight as well.  Because without cravings, losing weight becauses so much easier and happens quicker than you could every imagine.

Marie :)
